The vending machine market in Southeast Asia is expected to witness significant growth in the coming years due to rapid urbanization in the region and the development of retail channels such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, shopping malls, and convenience stores. The Change of consumers’ lifestyle and the growing working population have led to the growth of ready-to-eat food and beverages in Southeast Asia.

According to the analysis of local industry associations, as of the end of 2023, Vietnam has 10000 vending machines, Indonesia has 30000, and Malaysia has 50000 vending machines
 

Broad Space for Market Development

 In Asia, what is driving the use of smart vending machines is the high penetration of mobile payments. Data from US financial services giant Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) shows that 44% of payments in the stores in the Asia-Pacific region are mobile payments!

Vietnam: Although the local GDP per capita in Vietnam is low, consumers have a strong preference for electronic products in China. In 2021, the sales of local 3C home appliances grew rapidly, and the mobile e-commerce foundation was good. With a year-on-year increase of 53% in 2021, 3C home appliances have greater room for development.

Indonesia: Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world, with about 100 million people using the Internet, accounting for 38% of the total population, and 60% of these people live in large cities such as Jakarta and Bandung; 

Indonesia's economic growth is also very optimistic, and the income group of Indonesia's middle class is

expanding, which is expected to exceed 45 million people.

 

About the vending machine industry in Indonesia
 

Currently, there are approximately 30,000 vending machines in Indonesia, including traditional and intelligent vending machines. Among them, there are about 4,000 to 5,000 smart vending machines, which mainly sell snacks and drinks. A single vending machine can accommodate about 25 to 30 SKUs, and the number is between 100-200. The mainly-used payment method is e-wallet.

 Opportunities for vending machine in Indonesia

In the future, there will be huge opportunities to use vending machines in Indonesia. With the growth and rapid development of the economy, the number of vending machines has been increasing and these machines can be easily found in various strategic locations like office centers, factories, railway stations, airports, campuses and other public areas.
